Safety comparison
Water jetting injuries are catastrophic — high-pressure injection wounds require immediate surgical care. The standards around it (exclusion zones, hands-free equipment, dedicated attendants) reflect that. Dry ice has real hazards (CO₂, noise, cold) but no mechanism for a comparable severity injury. That difference alone drives many facilities toward dry ice for accessible external work.
Waste and disposal
Hydroblasting produces contaminated water measured in hundreds or thousands of gallons per shift. If the contaminant is regulated, that water becomes regulated waste. Dry ice produces only the contaminant, typically collected dry in a HEPA vacuum — often a hundredfold reduction in waste volume.
