Dry Ice Blasting for Food Processing Equipment
How food and beverage plants use dry ice blasting to clean ovens, conveyors, fillers, and packaging lines without water or chemicals.
Food processors face a difficult cleaning equation: equipment must be sanitary, allergens must be controlled, downtime must stay short, and the cleaning method itself cannot introduce a new risk. Water-based cleaning often makes the problem worse — it pools in frames and bearings, drives corrosion, and creates microbial risk in dry production zones.
CO₂ and food safety
CO₂ is recognized by the U.S. FDA as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) for use under cGMP. That makes dry ice blasting a strong fit for cleaning food contact and food zone equipment when performed by trained operators with appropriate procedures. The dry ice itself is consumable food-grade CO₂ pelletized on-site or delivered from a qualified supplier.

Allergen changeovers
On lines that produce multiple SKUs containing one or more of the major allergens, changeover cleaning is the difference between a clean run and a recall. Dry ice blasting removes visible and invisible product residue without water and without chemicals — and it leaves the line ready to verify (ATP swab, allergen-specific swab) without an extended drying step.
What we typically do not clean with dry ice
We do not clean open product on open equipment. Production is either down or the equipment is isolated and product paths are protected. We follow the plant's SQF / BRC / FSSC procedures and document the work to the same standard.
