Dry Ice Blasting Electrical Equipment: Switchgear, MCCs, and Bus Duct

Dry ice is non-conductive and leaves no residue, which is why it has become the standard for cleaning electrical assets — often without a full de-energization.

Dust, carbon tracking, and conductive contamination on electrical gear cause flashovers, nuisance trips, and thermal derating. Traditional cleaning means solvent wipes, vacuuming, and disassembly — slow, incomplete, and often impossible on live systems. Dry ice blasting reaches into the geometry, leaves no residue, and does not conduct.

Expect an NFPA 70E risk assessment, arc-rated PPE, an approach-boundary plan, and a qualified person present. Where scheduling allows, de-energizing and applying LOTO is always the lower-risk path.
